Do you ever crave punch? I know, this sounds kinda weird. I haven't thought of punch in a long time. This past weekend, we went to my cousins engagement party in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The party was held at a beautiful home, part of it was outside, under a tent, under the oak trees. Even thought it was pouring rain, it was beautiful and there was quite a lovely ambiance. For some reason, it seemed like the perfect occasion to serve punch. Kinda like the 60's, when people had punch at their graduation and engagement parties.

My mom used to make Sherbet Punch for our birthday parties when we were kids. It was such a treat, and boy was it delicious.

Orange Sherbet Punch Recipe

1/2 gallon sherbet, any flavor
2 quarts (8 cups) ginger ale
Ice mold

*Chill all ingredients well before mixing
*Scoop sherbet into a large punch bowl. Stir to soften.
*Slowly add ginger ale.
*Float an ice mold, if desired.
*Makes 32 servings.

*Add 3 to 4 cups of fruit juice, corresponding to the sherbet flavor, sweetening if necessary.
*Substitute 1 750 ml bottle of champagne and 3 cups of pineapple juice for the ginger ale. Pineapple sherbet works well here.
*Float small dollops of sherbet atop the punch in the punch bowl.

Next time I throw a party, or get together, I'm having punch. The kinda punch that makes you smile, makes you feel like a kid again. The kinda punch that you know you're only having because it is a special occasion! And finally, I'd like to serve it out of pretty glasses and a big fancy punch bowl!

I adore punch. I am from a small town, so we still have it at all weddings, showers, any party really. At my best friend's wedding there was a fierce battle in the kitchen between my grandmother and the mother-in-law about the quantity of ginger ale.
