Pencils of Promise

I'd like to share with you one of my favorite school memories. When I was in second grade, my teacher, Mrs. Plonsky, gave everyone in my class a Christmas present. Each child in my class received personalized pencils. A packet of red, blue and green pencils with our names on them, engraved in gold. They were so special. I remember thinking that those pencils were the greatest gift ever, they were my most prized possession. Mrs. Plonsky gave them to us for writing in cursive. All spring we mastered our cursive penmanship using our individual pencils. I will forever remember the excitement of receiving those pencils, and now, reflecting back, I appreciate the joy of learning that they symbolized. Today I come together with an incredible community of design bloggers, lead by Paloma of La Dolce Vita, to spread awareness about a special charity which creates education opportunities for 75 million children around the globe. In the Christmas spirit of giving, I ask you to help children. I ask you to help children receive the simple gift of learning.
Pencils of Promise raises money to build schools for children living in impoverished conditions, for children who do not have an opportunity to go to school. The goal of this Christmas is to raise enough money to build dormitories for a large high school in rural Laos, where there are only two secondary schools in a large geographic area. Children travel long distances from their villages just to attend school. Let's help them have a safer and cleaner accommodation. Let's help them have a better chance at an education.
All you have to do is donate $1. You can do it by clicking right here. Your donation will make a difference, specifically helping Laotian highschool girls. I want to thank you for reading this and for learning more about Pencils of Promise. Thank you for your donation and for learning more about this great opportunity to help others in need.
