Happy Halloween!

Going on a last minute trip to Colorado first thing tomorrow morning! I doubt I'll be in costume at any point during this weekend, but I definitely do candy. This orange room makes me smile. I love orange because it reminds me of my sister, whose favorite color as a small child was orange!

Trench Love

I want this coat. I'm stalking JCrew until it goes on sale. Oh, and I want to wear it with boyfriend jeans and pinky peach satin pumps like this fashionista.

Christmas Decorations, already?

I know I know, I can't even believe I've typed a subject with the word, "Christmas" already...especially since last week it was 81 degrees in Houston. Miserable. But, I got some catalogues in the mail this week, including Crate and Barrel. I thought I'd thumb through them to think about what kind of decorations we should start trying to collect, since I can't wait to decorate this house for the holidays, remember? And also I should mention that I do not own one single holiday decor item.

Anyway, I came across these Marimekko table cloths which are gorgeous! I love them. I just wouldn't be able to decide between this one:

or maybe something a little more colorful:

Come Over for a Swing!

While I was busy all weekend entertaining my in laws and watching my husband swim, bike and run 70.3 miles in his first half ironman triathlon, my parents were hauling my new swing over the Louisiana/Texas state border. I love it!

I pretty much love any front porch, they epitomize living in the south, mine is the reason I fell in love with our house. Now that we have the main element, the swing, I can start to accessorize! Plants, rockers, outdoor pillows are all in order!

Birch Logs...

...are so good looking. Just last night I was flipping through the latest West Elm catalogue, and each page is merchandised with birch logs. Unfortunately, they are the only things I wanted to buy from West Elm, and I couldn't find them for sale. Fortunately for me, I got an email from Pieces this morning...selling birch wood log bundles! They are lovely for fall! Now, if only I had a fire place...

Clean Kitchen

Love everything about this clean kitchen...especially that yummy worn pewter plate hanging on the wall...

Rice to Pillows...

I saw these at a shop the other day. I love them, they are burlap pillows made from rice sacks. What a fun and easy project, not to mention great way to recycle! That India Gate one reminds me of where we were just about this time last year....

Ouch

Ethnic Touch

I love Madeline Weinrib's apartment. I have these Elle Decor pages torn out somewhere in my mess of an office. But I came across them online today and it reminded me how much I love her multi-cultural, global style.

New Zealand Travel Guide

I couldn't have come up with a better one myself. These Daily Candy folks sure did their homework! They picked ALL the hot spots I would have recommend to anyone traveling to those cities in New Zealand. I know each city well, except for Hawkes Bay, but judging their suggestions of Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown, I'm sure their Hawke's Bay highlights aren't to be missed. Good thing I'll be checking out HB next year for my brother in law's wedding!

In Auckland, LOVE Karen Walker, her shop and clothes, not to be missed. I've had many of drinks and late nights in Wellington's Matterhorn. Highly recommended. Bicycle Thief was one of our favorite cozy haunts in winter, beer, pizza and open fires helped us bare the cold! I've written about Amisfield in Queenstown before..an absolute must if you are visiting New Zealand! Ahh, feeling a bit homesick for New Zealand after reading this article! I encourage everyone to visit there ;) From here on out, for cities I'm unfamiliar with, I'm definitely going to trust the Daily Candy travel guides!

Bright Idea

I love this photo by Erin Martin, I pretty much love anything she does. I have been kind of toying around with the idea of hanging pendant/lantern type fixtures over side tables in my living room instead of putting lamps on them. We'll see...Oh and the type of light I'm thinking of using? Maybe these lotus style pendants. What do you think? Months ago I ripped out a picture of these (with source info) from a magazine, and it's somewhere in a stack of rip outs that should be filed away and organized. Then a few weeks ago, I saw it in an entry in Ronda's Bedroom contest! Love!

Rattan Desk

I just stumbled upon this little Rattan Desk from Pottery Barn. I'm neededing a better desk system in my little at home office. It's not what I need for my office, but it is 'So India Hicks', I love it. Would make a great little bedside table. Just FYI if you're looking for one!

Cloche Pendant

Here is my entry way. I know, that yuck yellow paint color has got to go. And so does that teeny weeny light fixture. I've had visitors and we've been out of town for what seems like the last 10 weekends. Good thing we'll be here this weekend to buckle down and get busy painting!!! Here's an antique Cloche from the south of France that I bought at Round Top. The glass is thin and seeded, I love it. Isn't that printer box it's sitting on lovely? I have so much work to do in this house it is unreal!
Here is what I'm going to use my cloche for in my entry way... what do you think?!

In a Texas State of Mind

I'm going to be in and out this week, we have a visitor in town from Australia! We're trying to show him a good ole Texas time! For instance, tonight: BBQ & Monday night football, two things I never really do, (um, I guess it will be a cultural experience for myself too!)...but, we would not be a good residents of this state unless we showed him what it was all about. When it comes to Texas and design, I can't really do the Texas flag, the Texas star, too much leather or gaudy ranches all together. But the colors in these photos sort of remind me of the wild west!

Mighty Fine Closet

How inviting and comfortable is this closet? Mine is teeny tiny, this photo reminds me that it could use some better organization! I love all the little odd chairs and black cabinets!
We're off to Canyon Lake for Tim's first triathlon! Have a great weekend! xxx
